Hotel Information:
Dating back to 1856, this large Victorian hotel features an impressive lobby area with a grand sweeping staircase, stained glass windows and chandeliers. On entering the hotel, the reception and concierge desks can be found on the left. Guests can take a seat on one of the oversized red leather chairs and admire the building's decorative archways and ornate cornicing. The clientele is predominantly business guests during the week, with British and international leisure travellers taking advantage of the hotel's prime location at the weekends.

Guests can choose French dishes from the extensive menu at the hotel's Chez Gerard restaurant, or enjoy drinks and snacks in either the oak-panelled bar or spacious Grosvenor lounge. Getting there: The Heathrow Express train takes 15 minutes non-stop from the airport to Paddington Station in the centre of London. Trains leave every 15 minutes and the standard single fare is 14.50. Paddington is seven stops from Victoria on the District and Circle lines of the London Underground. The airport is also on the Undergrounds Piccadilly Line which runs directly to South Kensington, where you can change to the Circle or District line to reach Victoria. Trains depart approximately every 10 minutes and the journey takes around 60 minutes to central London. A one-day travel card including travel to Heathrow costs 6.30. Black taxi cabs wait outside each terminal, and typically cost around 50 to central London. Coaches run to London Victoria station. Local buses also serve Heathrow. All prices subject to change.
London Gatwick Airport (LGW): Approximate driving time to Thistle Victoria is 60 minutes and distance is 33 miles (53 kilometres).
Getting there: The Gatwick Express train runs every 15 minutes from the airport to London Victoria Station and takes 30 minutes non-stop. A standard single ticket is 14. Cheaper regional train services also run to Victoria. Coaches to London Victoria depart from the ground floor of the South Terminal. A taxi to the centre of London costs around 80 and takes about 70 minutes.
Getting around: The easiest way to get around London is by using the Underground (Tube) or bus services. Single cash tickets are expensive and for the cheapest fares, an electronic Oyster card is recommended; these are available from ticket offices for a refundable deposit of 3. Day or weekly travel cards are the most cost efficient option and are valid on the Underground, buses, trains, DLR and trams. Londons black taxis are plentiful and can be hailed in the street. There is a congestion charge zone for cars in central London and driving is not recommended to visitors.

Chez Gerard
- Bright, air-conditioned restaurant featuring ornate pillars, high ceilings and dark wood furniture. The floor is tiled and large mirrors adorn the walls. Opens daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, serving a range of French dishes such as Grilled French Veal Escalope with Fresh Lemon and Grilled Fillet of Scottish Salmon with Roasted Plum Tomato Dressing.
Harvard Bar
- Traditional bar with oak panelling, wooden flooring and decor in dark greens and reds. A flatscreen television is mounted on the wall. Serves drinks, sandwiches and cakes.
Grosvenor Lounge
- Large room with red and brown velvet chairs and dark wood furniture. Paintings and mirrors adorn the walls and there is a fireplace at one end and a vase of fresh flowers on the central table. Serves drinks, sandwiches and cakes.
